Czech Post launches full operation of the sorting centre of the Balíkovna Balíkovna in Mošnov

A new machine capable of automated sorting of up to 13,000 parcels per hour has been put into operation at the sorting centre of the Czech Post, or the Balíkovna in Mošnov. Up to 300,000 parcels can be sorted daily on an area of nearly 30,000 square metres. The storage capacity is up to 1,000 pallet spaces. A total of three hundred employees work in the logistics centre.

The parcel office operates the entire parcel processing chain from receipt from the sender to delivery to the addressee. Parcels are sorted at 8 sorting centres across the country and then prepared for distribution at 58 depots, from where they are delivered to clients by parcel delivery drivers. Clients can also pick up their parcels at any of the 8,400 drop-off points. The sorting centre in Mosnov is the largest for Moravia and Silesia (the sorting centre in Malesice, Prague is the largest for Bohemia). The parcel company expects to sort up to 20 million parcels in Mošnov this year thanks to the increased capacity. Last year, Balíkovna delivered more than 57 million parcels to clients.

"By starting full operation of the sorting centre in Mošnov, we can offer our clients faster and higher quality services. Thanks to the strategic location of Mošnov and the connection of the logistics facility to rail and air transport, Balíkova has the opportunity to deepen its cooperation with business partners in Poland and Slovakia, as well as the possibility of faster processing of large volumes of foreign shipments from Asia," says Lukáš Rampas, the director of Balíkova.

This year, Balíkovna will continue to expand its distribution network and further enhance the customer experience, for example with new functionalities in its mobile app or new products. Already today, 91% of its clients rate Balíkovna's services positively and 71% would continue to recommend it to their friends, the company reports. More than 5,000 Balíkovna employees will be involved in providing logistics services.

As part of the ongoing transformation, Balíkovna should be separated from Česká pošta by 1 January 2025. "The aim of the transformation of Česká pošta is to separate public services from commercial services, i.e. parcel and logistics services. Our intention is to make them part of a separate Balíkovna from next year. The premises in Mošnov give it new opportunities and strengthen its position on the market of transport and delivery companies. And this logistics centre will also bring added value to the whole region by supporting employment of local citizens," explains Miroslav Štěpán, CEO of Česká pošta.
